The Black Box
(Formerly "Stump Jumper")

I've been wanting to make this for a few years now.  The mechanical portion of this project was easy and fast, but the rest of it (i.e:  The fiberglass, painting, etc) was long, nasty, and expensive.  Yuck!!  The finished product it cool.  Inside we have a Bimba NR3118, sound module, speakers, and of course, a red flood light, all controlled with a motion controlled event timer.  We scrapped this project the day after Halloween and built it into "The Black Box"  (See below for the details)

<-- Here's the stump with the mechanics down, and the chicken-wire frame.  We're about the put a coat of fiberglass over it.  (Little did I know that fiberglass was a HUGE pain in the ass)

Michelle to the rescue!!  I was thoroghly frustrated with the fiberglass, and my artistic talent runs thin, so Michelle jumped in to save the day!

For those of you that have not yet discovered the miracle of child labor... Voila!  Counterclockwise from the top:  Courtney, Aimee, Noe.

The day after Halloween 2005, I gutted the good parts from the stump jumper and tossed the fiberglass shell in the garbage truck when it came by.  Although it was a great prop, we kept getting comments about how cool our volcano was!  :)
So for 2006, it got a complete makeover and was made into "The Black Box", or as we prefer to call it, "Crap in the Box".

Everything is built right into this new prop.  Sound, pneumatics, motion control, etc.  All I have to do is plug in power, and the air hose, and viola!  (All of our other moving props take quite some time to set up fully)
